I learned to program in Java when I was ten and was fascinated by its puzzle-like logic. Writing my own implementations of bubble sort or binary search and testing different methods to increase their efficiency was extremely rewarding and engaging, so I delved deeper with high-level computer science and mathematics classes in school and MOOCs on Artificial Intelligence and Data Structures from Stanford and the University of Illinois.

However, it is building projects and seeing the real-world applicability of the subject that truly drives me to the field of CS. I am passionate about using technology in the realm of sustainability and conservation.  As I look to the future I would like to work at the intersection of AI, environmental science, and ethics. I hope to make meaningful change through building systems that are safe, sustainable, and ethical.
